What Is Blepharoplasty?
Upper and lower eyelids tend to become droopy or baggy due to the aging process. The eyebrows can also sag or droop as part of this same process — causing an older or tired appearance. Cosmetic eyelid surgery works to eliminate these changes. Rejuvenating the eyes often makes a bigger difference to overall appearance than any other single procedure.
Blepharoplasty can be cosmetic (appearance-focused) or functional (when drooping lids impair vision). In many cases insurance may cover the procedure when functional impairment is documented.
What We Evaluate Before Surgery

Pre-Op Planning
A personalized surgical plan is created based on anatomy and goals. Plan to arrive 30–60 minutes before your procedure. A driver must be arranged — you will not be able to drive home.
Surgery Day
Generally performed under local anesthetic with a mild sedative. Upper eyelid incisions are made along natural skin folds — nearly invisible when healed. Lower eyelid incisions are made inside the lid to remove fat without visible external scars.
Recovery
Stitches dissolve within 7–10 days. Eyes may feel sticky, dry, or itchy for 1–2 weeks. Bruising and swelling typically resolve in 1–4 weeks. Final results are evaluated at 1 year as healing continues.
Results & Expectations
The vast majority of patients are extremely happy with their appearance after blepharoplasty. While the positive effects are immediate, results are not considered final for up to 1 year as healing continues. Serious complications are extremely rare.
Functional vs. Cosmetic Coverage
