Symptoms of Orbital Tumors
Orbital tumors can present gradually, making them easy to overlook. Any unexplained change in eye position, vision, or the appearance of the eye area should be evaluated by an oculoplastic specialist.
Diagnosis
Orbital tumor evaluation includes a full ophthalmic exam, detailed history, and advanced imaging (CT or MRI of the orbit). In many cases, a biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis before treatment is planned.

Common Orbital Tumor Types
Cavernous Hemangioma
The most common benign orbital tumor in adults. Typically slow-growing and well-encapsulated — surgical removal is curative when symptomatic.
Dermoid Cyst
A congenital cyst often found near the orbital rim, usually presenting in childhood. Requires surgical excision to prevent rupture and inflammation.
Lymphoma
Orbital lymphoma typically presents with progressive proptosis. Biopsy and staging are essential — treatment may involve radiation, chemotherapy, or a combination.
Inflammatory Pseudotumor
A benign but painful orbital inflammation that mimics a tumor. Typically responds to corticosteroids, though biopsy may be required to rule out malignancy.
Rhabdomyosarcoma
The most common primary orbital malignancy in children. Requires urgent evaluation and treatment — early diagnosis is critical for survival.
Metastatic Tumors
Breast, lung, and prostate cancers can metastasize to the orbit. Orbital metastasis may be the first sign of a systemic malignancy in some patients.
