LenSx® Laser: A New Class of Cataract Procedure

The LenSx® Laser, the first femtosecond laser approved by the FDA for use in cataract surgery, brings computer-guided accuracy, precision, and a new level of reproducibility to refractive cataract surgery. From inception, the LenSx® Laser has show measurable improvements regardless of how accurate manual procedures may have seemed in the past.

The LenSx® Laser provides incredible accuracy and reproducibility while performing anterior capsulotomy, lens fragmentation and corneal incisions. In certain cases, the laser can also be used to reduce small levels of astigmatism, to produce even better cataract surgery vision outcomes.

The system aids surgeons in performing extremely precise surgery, while supporting full customization to each individual case. From customized fragmentation patterns to clean three-plane corneal incisions, surgeons are able to make extremely precise cuts that drive highly controlled and highly predictable visual outcomes.

LenSx® Laser: Clinical Studies

The accuracy and precision of the LenSx® Laser was tested in a series of clinical studies by Dr. Zoltan Z. Nagy of Semmelweis University in Budapest back in 2009. In these studies, Dr. Nagy was able to demonstrate enhanced levels of surgical accuracy and reproducibility.

Below, you will find some of the results from the study, which tested performance in lens fragmentation, capsulotomies, and creating self-sealing corneal incisions.

  • Creating Anterior Capsulotomies with the LenSx® Laser
The Laser achieved accurate centration and intended diameter in 100% of cases, with no radial tears or adverse events seen.*1
  • LenSx® Laser vs Manually Created Capsulorhexis
Only 10% of manually created Capsulorhexis were able to achieve a similar diameter accuracy as the LenSx® Laser (at +/-0.25 mm1).*1,2
  • Creating Corneal Incisions with the LenSx® Laser
Results were highly reproducible, with precise dimensions and geometry.*1
