The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser System’s proven, state-of-the-art technology results in excellent Wavefront Optimized® and Wavefront-Guided laser vision correction. The system includes a number of new refractive technology innovations to produce effective, reliable and fast laser procedures.
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is designed to provide an incredibly high level of reliability and precision, as it’s ergonomically designed to pair with the WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser.
With the help of the WaveNet™ Integrated Computer Network, both laser systems are linked with WaveLight® diagnostic products for seamless data transfer and more efficient treatment planning.
The WaveLight® EX500 combines PerfectPulse Technology®, a 500Hz repetition rate, an enclosed beam path design, and laser spot physics. This combination helps make the WaveLight® Refractive Suite the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the US with a standard flap creation time of approximately 6 seconds.
The benefits of these faster procedure times can include:
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the only excimer laser to operate at 500Hz, with an average treatment time of approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter. The swivel bed is also designed to minimize time between flap creation and the laser procedure.
The WaveLight® EX500 includes a myriad of other benefits & advantages including:
An ultra-thin laser beam is used to sculpt the corneal surface with ultimate precision. PerfectPulse Technology® also uses a proprietary eye-tracking system to follow the eye’s fastest movements. This helps to ensure accurate placement of each laser pulse on the cornea, which further enhances both precision and safety.
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser’s highly evolved eye tracking technology is designed to ensure quality pulse placement. This helps to ensure both correct treatment positions while avoiding displacements, which end up being some of the most important factors in obtaining excellent refractive outcomes.
The WaveLight® Advanced Lighting System is used in conjunction with the 1050Hz eye tracking system (synchronized at 500Hz) to help minimize eye movements during the treatment.
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser features a multi-spatial 1050 Hz-type eye tracker (synchronized at 500Hz) with latency times as short as 2 milliseconds. This allows for tracking at speeds up to 10 times faster than natural eye movement, which help drive exact positioning of the calculated ablation profile to optimize treatment results.
While the eye tracker loop is adjusting mirrors for the 1st pulse, it’s already begun determining eye position for the 2nd pulse. This type of multitask functionality helps support extremely precise eye tracking even at high speeds.
The WaveLight® EX500 includes an active, video-based, closed loop tracking scheme. It’s this scheme that allows the system to captures the image, processes it, and then verify eye position with the next image before releasing the pulse.
The integrated cross-line projector provides your surgeon with an exact alignment of the head and eye to indicate an appropriate patient position. This capability even further enhances safety and precision.
